Salisbury Steak With Gravy Old-fashioned

Classic comfort food with juicy beef patties smothered in rich onion-mushroom gravy.

Ingredients

For the Steaks

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & black pepper

For the Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape into oval patties.
  3. Brown patties in a skillet for 4–5 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, cook onions and mushrooms in butter until soft.
  5. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
  6. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  7. Return patties to the pan.
  8. Simmer 15–20 minutes until gravy thickens and patties are cooked through.

Serve With

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Rice
  • Buttered noodles
  • Green beans or peas
