Step 1: Warm the Beans

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the refried beans, water, and taco seasoning.
  2. Stir until smooth and heated through, about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Assemble the Tostadas

  1. Place the tostada shells on serving plates.
  2. Spread a generous layer of warm refried beans over each shell.
  3. Drizzle with taco sauce.

Step 3: Add the Toppings

  1. Top with shredded lettuce.
  2. Sprinkle diced tomatoes evenly over the lettuce.
  3. Finish with a generous handful of shredded cheddar cheese.

Step 4: Serve

Serve immediately while the shell is still crispy.

Homemade Tostada Shells

If you can’t find tostada shells:

  1. Heat ½ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet.
  2. Fry corn tortillas for 1–2 minutes per side until crisp and golden.
  3. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle lightly with salt.

Tips for the Best Taco Bell-Style Tostada

  • Use finely shredded iceberg lettuce for the authentic fast-food texture.
  • Warm beans spread more easily and help hold the toppings in place.
  • Assemble just before serving to keep the shell crunchy.
  • Add seasoned ground beef for a heartier version.
