Ingredients
- 4 large green tomatoes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- Oil for frying
Optional:
- Cayenne pepper for heat
- Parmesan cheese in the coating
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
1. Slice the tomatoes
Cut tomatoes into ¼-inch slices and pat dry with paper towels
2. Set up dredging stations
- Bowl 1: flour
- Bowl 2: eggs + buttermilk whisked together
- Bowl 3: cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and paprika
3. Bread the tomatoes
Dip each slice:
- In flour
- In egg mixture
- In cornmeal mixture
4. Fry
Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp
5. Serve
Best served hot with:
- Ranch dressing
- Remoulade sauce
- Spicy mayo
- Hot sauce

- Use firm, unripe green tomatoes
- Let breaded slices rest 5 minutes before frying
- Don’t overcrowd the skillet
