Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ cup melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 3½–4 cups all-purpose flour
- Extra melted butter for brushing
Instructions
1. Activate the yeast
In a large bowl, combine:
- warm milk
- yeast
- sugar
Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough
Mix in:
- melted butter
- egg
- salt
Add flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead
Knead 8–10 minutes by hand (or 5 minutes with a mixer) until smooth and elastic.
4. First rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise about 1 hour or until doubled.
5. Shape the rolls
Punch down dough and divide into 12–15 large rolls.
Place in a greased 9×13 baking dish or sheet pan.
6. Second rise
Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes until puffy.
7. Bake
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
Brush tops with melted butter immediately after baking.
Tips
- For extra softness, replace half the milk with warm cream.
- If the dough feels sticky, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time.
