Old-Fashioned Custard Pie

Custard Pie is a simple, old-school dessert with a silky, lightly sweet custard baked inside a buttery crust.


🄧 Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups milk (whole milk is best)
  • Ground nutmeg (optional, for topping)

1. Prepare crust

  • Place pie crust in a pie dish and crimp edges.

2. Make custard

  • Whisk eggs, sugar, salt, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Warm milk slightly (not boiling).
  • Slowly whisk milk into egg mixture.

3. Fill & bake

  • Pour mixture into crust.
  • Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
  • Bake at 200°C (400°F) for 10 minutes, then reduce to 175°C (350°F) and bake 25–35 minutes.

4. Cool

  • Let it cool completely so the custard sets properly.

  • Don’t overbake—center should still slightly jiggle when done.
  • Whole milk gives the creamiest texture.
