Ingredients
For the Cake
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
Optional Topping
- 2 tbsp sugar for sprinkling
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch cake pan or springform pan.
- Mix dry ingredients
Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
- Cream butter and sugar
Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla.
- Combine batter
Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk, mixing just until combined.
- Add strawberries
Spread batter into the pan. Arrange sliced strawberries on top and sprinkle with sugar.
- Bake
Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool & serve
Let cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Tips
- Use ripe strawberries for the best flavor.
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
- The cake stays wonderfully moist thanks to the buttermilk.
