Slap Ya Momma Fried Chicken 🍗

Ingredients

Chicken Marinade

  • 3 lbs chicken pieces
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Crispy Seasoned Coating

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

For Frying

  • Vegetable or peanut oil

Instructions

1. Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, and pepper.

Add chicken and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for maximum flavor.

2. Prepare the Coating

In a shallow dish, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, white pepper, black pepper, salt, and oregano.

3. Coat the Chicken

Remove chicken from marinade and let excess drip away.

Press firmly into the flour mixture until fully coated.

For extra crunch: dip coated chicken back into buttermilk and coat again in flour mixture.

4. Fry the Chicken

Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry in batches without overcrowding:

  • Wings: 8–10 minutes
  • Thighs & legs: 12–15 minutes
  • Breasts: 12–14 minutes

Cook until deeply golden and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

5. Rest & Serve

Drain on a wire rack to keep the coating crisp.

Serve with:

  • Biscuits
  • Mac and cheese
  • Coleslaw
  • Hot honey
  • Fries or potato wedges

Flavor Tips

  • Add a pinch of Cajun seasoning for extra kick
  • Use smoked paprika for deeper flavor
  • Let coated chicken rest 10 minutes before frying for better crust adhesion

🍗 Crispy, juicy, spicy, and downright addictive—this fried chicken recipe is one worth saving forever.
