Potato cheese Bread

Soft, fluffy bread made with mashed potatoes and melted cheese for a rich, comforting flavor and tender texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 4 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3½–4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: garlic powder, chives, or parsley

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
  2. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

Make the Dough

  1. Add:
    • mashed potatoes
    • melted butter
    • egg
    • salt
  2. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Knead in shredded cheese.

First Rise

  1. Place dough in a greased bowl.
  2. Cover and let rise for 1–1½ hours until doubled.

Shape & Second Rise

  1. Shape dough into a loaf or rolls.
  2. Place into greased loaf pan or baking dish.
  3. Cover and let rise another 30–45 minutes.

Bake

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake:
    • Loaf: 35–40 minutes
    • Rolls: 20–25 minutes

Until golden brown.

  1. Brush with melted butter if desired.

Tips

  • Yukon Gold potatoes give great flavor and texture.
  • Sharp cheddar adds the best cheesy taste.
  • Add crispy bacon bits or jalapeños for extra flavor.
