Ingredients
- 1 cup warm mashed potatoes
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 3½–4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Optional: garlic powder, chives, or parsley
Instructions
Activate the Yeast
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast.
- Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Make the Dough
- Add:
- mashed potatoes
- melted butter
- egg
- salt
- Mix until combined.
- Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Knead in shredded cheese.
First Rise
- Place dough in a greased bowl.
- Cover and let rise for 1–1½ hours until doubled.
Shape & Second Rise
- Shape dough into a loaf or rolls.
- Place into greased loaf pan or baking dish.
- Cover and let rise another 30–45 minutes.
Bake
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake:
- Loaf: 35–40 minutes
- Rolls: 20–25 minutes
Until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter if desired.
Tips
- Yukon Gold potatoes give great flavor and texture.
- Sharp cheddar adds the best cheesy taste.
- Add crispy bacon bits or jalapeños for extra flavor.
