Shepherd’s pie gets a low-carb, meat-focused twist in this carnivore-style version — rich ground meat layered under a creamy topping made from animal-based ingredients instead of traditional potatoes.

Carnivore Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

Meat Layer

  • 2 lbs ground beef or lamb
  • 4 tbsp butter or beef tallow
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ cup beef broth

Creamy Topping

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp butter

Optional Additions

  • Crispy bacon pieces
  • Parmesan cheese on top
  • Sour cream for extra richness

Instructions

1. Cook the Meat

Heat butter or tallow in a skillet.

Add ground beef or lamb and cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Pour in beef broth and simmer a few minutes until slightly thickened.

2. Make the Topping

In a bowl, mix:

  • cream cheese
  • cheddar cheese
  • egg yolks
  • butter

Blend until smooth and creamy.

3. Assemble

Spread meat into a baking dish.

Top evenly with the creamy cheese mixture.

Sprinkle extra cheddar or parmesan on top if desired.

4. Bake

Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
