Ingredients
For the Salisbury Steaks
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp mustard
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp oil or butter for cooking
For the Onion Gravy
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Form into oval patties.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown patties on both sides. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and cook sliced onions until deeply golden and soft.
- Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
- Return patties to skillet, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes until cooked through.
