Ingredients
For the Shells
- 1 box jumbo pasta shells
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups spinach, chopped (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Sauce
- 3 cups marinara sauce
Optional:
- Fresh basil or parsley
- Red pepper flakes
Instructions
1. Cook the Pasta
- Boil shells until just al dente.
- Drain and rinse with cool water.
2. Make the Filling
- In a bowl combine:
- ricotta
- 1 cup mozzarella
- parmesan
- egg
- spinach
- garlic
- Italian seasoning
- salt & pepper
3. Assemble
- Spread 1 cup marinara sauce in a baking dish.
- Fill each shell with the cheese mixture.
- Arrange shells in the dish.
- Spoon remaining sauce over top.
- Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella.
4. Bake
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and bake another 10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
5. Serve
- Garnish with basil, parsley, or parmesan.
Variations
- Add cooked ground beef or Italian sausage.
- Use cottage cheese instead of ricotta.
- Mix in mushrooms or roasted vegetables.
