CARAMEL FROSTING

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup milk or heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Melt base: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  2. Add sugar: Stir in brown sugar and cook for 1–2 minutes until smooth and slightly bubbling.
  3. Add milk/cream: Carefully pour in milk and whisk until combined. Let it gently boil for 1 minute.
  4. Cool slightly: Remove from heat and let it sit for 5–10 minutes (important so it thickens properly).
  5. Finish frosting: Beat in powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth and creamy.

Texture Tips

  • For thicker frosting: add more powdered sugar
  • For drizzle glaze: add a splash more milk
  • For extra shine: use heavy cream instead of milk

  • Brownies

Spread quickly while warm—it sets fast into a rich, fudgy caramel layer.
