Ingredients (Serves 4)
For the Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper
For the Onion Gravy
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Make the patties
Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 oval patties. - Brown the steaks
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the onions
In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions until soft and golden, about 10 minutes. - Make the gravy
Stir flour into the onions and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until smooth. - Simmer together
Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and the gravy thickens. - Serve
Great with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.
Extra Tips
- Add sliced mushrooms for extra richness.
- For deeper flavor, use a mix of beef broth and onion soup.
- A splash of cream can make the gravy extra silky.
