Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy🥩🧅

Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper

For the Onion Gravy

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the patties
    Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Brown the steaks
    Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the onions
    In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions until soft and golden, about 10 minutes.
  4. Make the gravy
    Stir flour into the onions and cook 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
  5. Simmer together
    Return patties to the skillet. Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  6. Serve
    Great with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

Extra Tips

  • Add sliced mushrooms for extra richness.
  • For deeper flavor, use a mix of beef broth and onion soup.
  • A splash of cream can make the gravy extra silky.
