🍎🍰 Applesauce Cinnamon Cake
A moist, warmly spiced cake that’s perfect with coffee or tea.
Ingredients
For the Cake
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1½ cups (360 g) unsweetened applesauce
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch (20 cm) square pan or a loaf pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Stir in the applesauce.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Mix the topping ingredients and sprinkle evenly over the batter.
- Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool before slicing and serving.
Optional Add-Ins
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- ½ cup raisins
- ½ cup diced apples
Serving Suggestions
- Dust with powdered sugar.
