Sweet Potato Pie

🥧🍠 Sweet Potato Pie

A classic Southern-style dessert with a smooth, spiced sweet potato filling in a flaky pie crust.

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 2 cups (about 450 g) mashed cooked sweet potatoes
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup (120 ml) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the Crust

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes and melted butter.
  3. Whisk in the brown sugar, eggs, evaporated milk, and vanilla.
  4. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  5. Pour the filling into the pie crust and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the center is mostly set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool completely before slicing. The pie will continue to set as it cools.

Optional Toppings

  • Whipped cream
  • Toasted pecans
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon
  • Caramel drizzle

Tips

  • Roast the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them for a deeper flavor.
  • For an extra-smooth filling, blend the mixture before baking.
  • Chill the pie for a few hours before serving if you prefer a firmer texture.
