Easy Big Fat Yeast Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in melted butter, egg, and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into 12–15 pieces.
  7. Shape into rolls and place in a greased baking dish.
  8. Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
  9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Brush tops with melted butter while warm.

Tips

  • For softer rolls, avoid adding too much flour.
  • You can substitute part of the milk with buttermilk for richer flavor.
  • These rolls freeze well after baking.
