FRIED GREEN TOMATOES

A Southern classic with a crunchy golden coating and tangy green tomatoes inside. Great as an appetizer, side dish, or snack with dipping sauce.


🧾 Ingredients

  • 3–4 firm green tomatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk or buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Oil for frying

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Slice the tomatoes

Cut green tomatoes into ¼-inch slices. Pat dry with paper towels.


2. Set up dredging stations

  • Bowl 1: flour
  • Bowl 2: eggs + milk whisked together
  • Bowl 3: cornmeal, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and paprika

3. Coat the tomatoes

Dip each slice into:

  1. Flour
  2. Egg mixture
  3. Cornmeal mixture

Press lightly so the coating sticks well.


4. Fry

Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

Fry tomato slices 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

Transfer to paper towels or a wire rack.
