Grandpa’s Baked BBQ Ribs

Ingredients

  • 1.5–2 kg pork ribs
  • 1–2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp oil

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or lemon juice)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

1. Prep the Ribs

  1. Preheat oven to 150–160°C (300–320°F).
  2. Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs.
  3. Rub ribs with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar.
  4. Let sit for 15–30 minutes if possible.

2. Slow Bake (Tender Step)

  1. Wrap ribs tightly in foil (add a splash of water or apple juice inside for moisture).
  2. Place on a baking tray.
  3. Bake for 2.5–3 hours until very tender.

3. Add BBQ Sauce

  1. Mix all BBQ sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Remove ribs from foil.
  3. Brush generously with sauce.

4. Caramelize

  1. Increase oven to 220°C (425°F).
  2. Bake uncovered for 10–15 minutes.
  3. Brush again halfway for a sticky glaze.

Serving Ideas

  • Coleslaw 🥗
  • Cornbread 🌽
  • Fries or baked potatoes 🍟

Tip

For “grandpa-style” flavor, don’t rush the slow bake—that low heat is what makes the ribs fall-off-the-bone tender.
