Ingredients
For the Cake
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp butter extract (optional)
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Optional Vanilla Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2β3 tbsp milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven
Heat oven to 325Β°F (165Β°C). Grease and flour a Bundt or tube pan.
- Cream butter, shortening & sugar
Beat until very light and fluffy, about 4β5 minutes.
- Add eggs
Mix in eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate dry ingredients and milk
Add flour mixture and milk gradually to the batter. Stir in vanilla and butter extract.
- Bake
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool
Let cool in the pan for 10β15 minutes before turning out onto a rack.
- Optional glaze
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cake.

- Room-temperature ingredients help create a smoother batter.
- Donβt overmix after adding flour.
- This cake tastes even better the next day.
