Meat Pie

Ingredients

Filling

  • 500g ground beef (or lamb)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot (optional, finely diced)
  • 1/2 cup peas (optional)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp flour (for thickening)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Crust

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

1. Make the Filling

  1. Cook onion and garlic in a pan until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and brown it well.
  3. Stir in carrot and peas (if using).
  4. Add tomato paste, flour, and seasoning.
  5. Pour in broth and simmer until thick.
  6. Let filling cool completely.

2. Assemble the Pie

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. Line a pie dish with one sheet of puff pastry.
  3. Add cooled meat filling.
  4. Cover with second pastry sheet.
  5. Seal edges and cut small slits on top.
  6. Brush with beaten egg.

3. Bake

  • Bake for 30–40 minutes until golden and crisp.

Serving Ideas

  • Mashed potatoes 🥔
  • Green salad 🥗
  • Gravy or ketchup

Tip

Let the filling cool before assembling—this keeps the pastry crisp instead of soggy.
