Cinnamon Rolls
Dough
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 tsp yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 egg + 1 yolk
- 1/4 cup softened butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
Filling
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
Cream Cheese Icing
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- Splash of vanilla
Method
1. Make the dough
Mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add:
- eggs
- butter
- flour
- salt
Knead until smooth and soft.
Cover and let rise about 1 hour.
2. Fill & roll
Roll dough into a rectangle.
Spread butter, then cinnamon sugar mixture.
Roll tightly into a log and slice.
3. Second rise
Place in a greased baking dish.
Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes.
4. Bake
Bake at:
- 350°F / 175°C
- for 22–28 minutes
Until golden and fluffy.
5. Frost
Spread cream cheese icing while warm so it melts into the rolls.
Tips
- Heavy cream poured over the rolls before baking makes them extra soft.
- Dental floss cuts cleaner slices than a knife.
- Add chopped pecans for crunch.
- Best eaten warm.
