German Chocolate Cake 🍫🥥
Ingredients
Chocolate Cake
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- ¾ cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot coffee or hot water
Coconut-Pecan Frosting
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- ½ cup butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1½ cups shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
Mix dry ingredients together.
Add eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla.
Slowly stir in hot coffee or water until smooth.
Bake 30–35 minutes.
Cool completely.
2. Make the Frosting
In a saucepan over medium heat combine:
- evaporated milk
- sugar
- egg yolks
- butter
Cook while stirring until thickened.
Remove from heat and stir in:
- vanilla
- coconut
- pecans
Cool slightly.
3. Assemble
Spread frosting between cake layers and over the top.
Optional: frost sides with chocolate buttercream.
